Academic Enrichment

To develop and support subject study our sixth form provides students with a wealth of opportunities that develop your study skills, broaden your academic thinking and support your academic study.

Subject Lectures / Guest Speakers

  • We invite a range of inspirational speakers across a range of disciplines to develop deeper thinking and to introduce students to opportunities available. We use guidance time as well as time within subjects to explore general and specific topics in greater depth to further expose students to wider considerations allowing them to become more informed individuals.
  • Increasingly these opportunities are available online and are recorded for future reference.

Subject and Wider Reading

There are many opportunities available to our Sixth Form students to extend their study by reading and listening more widely around their subject areas, and on wider issues. We recommend and promote materials through our subject and guidance curriculum to support students to  develop their  intellectual curiosity and independent learning.

Every subject provides a wider reading list which includes books, articles, podcasts etc that support the development of both subject understanding and subject interest. Our library is an excellent resource and our librarian supports students to navigate research.

Post 16 teachers and subject heads will be happy to direct you to wider reading opportunities within your chosen subjects. Please contact them directly for further information.

Subject Study Support

One of our strengths is the support we provide to all students at every stage of their education. Students will already be familiar with this and should be confident that this support will continue and develop during their time of Post 16 study. We provide small group support, after school catch up sessions as well as subject clubs. The real support comes directly from the subject and the teachers who are available both in school and contactable through google classroom to help in a way that is tailored greatly to the individual.

Google Classroom

Again students who have studied with us will be very familiar with google classroom.
All students can access online learning materials including recorded lessons, teacher notes and powerpoints as well as feedback on submitted work through our Google Classroom.  This is an excellent learning platform that enables blended learning approaches and collaborative working.

We have fully integrated the use of Google education facilities into our academic provision. All students will be added to subject specific google classrooms - which will be used by their teachers to share lesson resources, extra reading and other resources. Our provision of blended learning is a key element of our Post-16 provision - ensuring students are able to regularly revisit previously learnt content and constantly expand their knowledge. Teachers typically use their subject google classroom as the primary means of communication outside of timetabled lessons and this complements the use of the platform lesson work.
